You’ve probably heard this before, but I’ll say it again here: I wish I’d found this guy first.
I had had my beast of an amp, a 1970s-era Sansui AU 20000 inherited from my former father-in-law, for almost 30 years before trouble arrived. I could go into the long, heinous tale of the disappointment I experienced with the first shop that tried to repair it, but I’ll cut it down to this: almost 18 months turnaround time between me on the East Coast and the shop in the Pacific Northwest, the expense of shipping, the unsatisfactory communication from them – sometimes involving repeated calls and emails just to learn where things stood -- and that shop’s ultimate failure to correct the very problem that precipitated the repair project. It literally came back with the problem not fixed.
That issue was eventually resolved – because I was the one who did the trouble-shooting to locate the source of it, which was found on the tone control circuitry board. After all the time and all the money and all their ineptitude, I had to remove that board myself and send it hack to that shop for them to resolder the board. I wonder whether they ever even turned the amp back on to check their work before returning it.
After the resoldered board came back, and the problem was gone, I thought that was the end of it. But then another issue arrived one day: The amp went into permanent protection mode. It had been working fine for several months since its return, then one day it was dead again. I had to start over. I wasn’t going back to the first shop.
This time, I found Precision Audio Restorations, conveniently on my side of the continent. Leo is a one-man show in the basement of his house, and his shop is clean and professional. He took about a month, working on weekends and in his off-hours from his day job, methodically isolating the cause of the protection mode’s short circuit while also finding some other remnants of the first shop’s sloppy work.
He was communicative, letting me know how the job was progressing and explaining anything I wanted explained, and he took the time to make sure his repair was correct before releasing the unit back to me. He’s a nice man, soft-spoken and direct. In medical terms, he has a good bedside manner. I felt the kind of comfort with him that one would want when they’re bringing their baby in for living-saving surgery.
It’s evident Leo does this work out of love and out of respect for the machines themselves. I think he might even have enjoyed it. That’s the kind of person you want, and I recommend him in the strongest terms.

Finally had the time to do some proper listening and the Sansui sounds amazing and works flawlessly. Low end information is blowing me away. More detail in the midrange too.
Thanks again!

Leo was amazing from the very first phone call to the day I picked up my repaired Sansui. He spent plenty time answering all my questions and knew exactly how to bring my blown receiver back to life. He gave me a fair price and was a true professional throughout the entire process. My stereo now looks and sounds beautiful for many years to come thanks to Leo. I highly recommend Precision Audio Restorations and couldn’t be happier.

It's obvious that Leo has a deep appreciation and regard for vintage audio, which was clearly demonstrated in how he approached the distortion problem my late '70s receiver was experiencing. His expertise, experience, and perseverance were evident in how he diagnosed and remedied the obscure issue that was adversely affecting the receiver's performance. His delight in solving the problem was equal to or perhaps exceeded mine! While delving into the specific issue, Leo also checked and cleaned the receiver, and updated several components to enhance the sound and ensure peak performance in the future. He was a pleasure to work with and communicated effectively and thoroughly throughout the process. Without hesitation, I would recommend Precision Audio Restorations be entrusted to address any issues with your vintage audio components.

“Hello all, just a shout out following my recent purchase of Sansui AU 717 amp …
...The whole experience was excellent. The amp itself was as advertised, immaculate. Sounds just like it should, connected to my JBL 4312C's and Sansui SR 838 with Ortofon Red..He even included all the old parts from the amp! And he added the rack handles from his own collection. The packing was great.. arrived perfectly. He was patient with my questions in the wake of my mom's passing, and I wanted to recreate my college system to remember her by through music. Every step was handled professionally and communication was excellent. He developed great trust in the transaction and I highly recommend him!”

"My Sansui SR-838 turntable suddenly died and Leo at Precision quickly identified the issue to be nothing more than a faulty power switch and promptly repaired it. I was so happy that I decided to have him completely recap it and set it to factory specs to ensure it runs perfectly for years to come. Turnaround was super-fast! Very happy customer. "
